Nick Gordon was arrested on Saturday after an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend, Laura Leal.
According to a police report obtained by People magazine, Gordon claimed the fight was unprovoked and accused Leal of attacking him first. The 29-year-old, who was the former boyfriend of the late Bobbi Kristina Brown, said Leal ripped his shirt before throwing a bottle at him.
Leal, however, blamed Gordon for the dispute, telling Seminole County Sheriff's officers Gordon struck her in the face after she picked him up from a local bar. During the car ride back to Gordon's house, Leal said he started grabbing her hair and allegedly "stated to her that he should make her wreck the vehicle."
A police report described Leal as having a slightly swollen bottom lip with dried blood. She wouldn't accept medical treatment and refused to press charges against Gordon following his arrest.
Both Gordon and Leal were reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the dispute.
This isn't Gordon's first time being accused of domestic violence. He was arrested in June 2017 for domestic battery and false imprisonment charges. Leal claimed Gordon had beaten her and held her hostage in their home.
Gordon was also infamously suspected of having a hand in the death of Brown. On January 31, 2015, the daughter of late singer Whitney Houston and former New Edition band member Bobby Brown was found unconscious in a bathtub of a Georgia townhouse she shared with Gordon. After spending nearly seven months in a coma, Bobbi Kristina Brown died on July 26, 2015.
A police investigation into Bobbi Kristina's death is still ongoing, and no charges have been made. But in November 2016, Gordon was found civilly liable for the 22-year-old's death and ordered to pay $36 million to her estate.
Following news of Gordon's arrest, Bobby Brown issued a statement to Us Weekly, speaking out against his daughter's ex and offered Leal support through the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House, a nonprofit organization established after her death.
"Domestic violence killed my daughter, and on March 4, 2018, the Bobbi Kristina Brown Serenity House held our first event to strike back at domestic violence," the 49-year-old singer said on Sunday.
"I personally would like to extend my hand to Ms. Leal and offer her services through our organization. I do not want to see any more families destroyed at the hands of domestic violence and I do not want any more women to suffer like my daughter did," Bobby Brown added. "We are here to assist and we hope to hear from Ms. Leal."
