MLK's presence grows in Quad Cities with new mural

A Quad Cities artist used the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday as inspiration to increase the presence of the civil rights icon.

Tattoo and graffiti artist Frank Hoffmaster started painting the mural Monday and is nearly complete after 2.5 hours.

It’s on the side of a building on Locust and Iowa Streets in Davenport.

The creator said he has two hopes. That it will help improve the area and inspire people to learn about MLK.

He added this portrait is just the start.

“A wall of just inspirational people. I’ve wanted to do a portrait of him as a tattoo of him for a long time and being a graffiti artist, I just settled for the wall.,” said artist Frank Hoffmaster.

After thinking about it for a year, he worked with a friend and business owner to make it possible.

It was Jacob Jensen’s dream to do something with the wall and filling it with images of inspiration people was a good way to make use of the canvas.

“Number one, just because of the artwork and that’s a major thing also, supporting the local artwork,” said Cloud 9 Glass owner Jacob Jensen. “Inspiring them to look deeper into what the information actually be provided to them and the world that we’re in and the society that we have right now. “

There are still a few final touches on the MLK mural before it will be complete.
